The Brick Tavern
About This Spot
Stepping into The Brick Tavern feels like settling into a familiar evening among friends, where the noise of the day begins to fade and the steady rhythm of good company and shared moments takes over. Nestled in Chicago Ridge, this bar offers a comfortable, unhurried vibe—neither rushed nor overly loud—where the wood tones and warm lighting invite you to relax and stay awhile.
The atmosphere strikes a balance between being easygoing and lively, shaped by the hum of conversations, the occasional clink from the shuffleboard, and the casual focus around a game of pool or darts. It’s the kind of place where you find yourself returning not just for what’s on the menu, but for the easy camaraderie woven through the room. Here, both longtime regulars and newcomers share a sense of belonging.
Speaking of the menu, it’s clear the kitchen takes pride in elevating classic bar fare into something thoughtfully crafted and satisfying. Whether you’re savoring a generously packed quesadilla or savoring a hearty pork tenderloin, each bite carries a touch of care and expertise that complements the relaxed setting. The drink selection keeps things straightforward but welcoming, with crisp beers and refreshing cocktails that pair well with the friendly buzz that fills the space.
What truly makes The Brick Tavern stand out beyond food and drink is its people. From the bartenders who know your name to the servers who bring warmth to every interaction, hospitality here feels sincere and genuine—rooted in simple kindness rather than polished formality. It’s the kind of place where moments linger: a shared laugh over a winning pool shot, a quiet conversation at the bar, or a comforting bite after a long day.
For those seeking a genuine neighborhood bar experience that blends good food, familiar games, and that rare welcoming spirit, The Brick Tavern quietly works its charm. It’s not about rushing through an evening, but about settling in and finding joy in the slower pleasures of community, craft, and easy conversation.

I finally got around to checking this place out the last 2 weekends after my parents raved about the food here. We went on a Friday night for dinner around 5PM and then on Saturday around 9PM with some friends for drinks. I will say, the food definitely lives up to the hype and I love the bar games (pool, shuffleboard, darts), but the service is a big problem. Both times we were in there the place was pretty crowded (at least 20 people) but there was only one bartender staffed. On Friday night, the bartender was stretched too thin: manning the bar, waiting tables, running food, and apparently doing the barback work. It took about an hour on Friday for us to get in, order, and get our food - which was all cold by the time it got to our table (except the soup). There were other tables with couples getting dinner as well, so we weren't the only ones. For a dive bar that's gotten a lot of buzz because of the kitchen, you'd think that there would be a higher priority on food service - but it feels like an afterthought. Saturday night was largely the same. It didn't seem like the bartender was even able to leave the bar because it was so busy so our friends who wanted food had to wait at the bar to order. It's more of a beer bar, but they also clearly make some kind of cocktails (which is cool), but slows the bartender down a lot. I bought a bucket of chips thinking it would make it easier to get me what I wanted, but the number of customers wanting drinks at the same time always meant at least another 3-5 minute wait. I like the divey atmosphere, but a big part of being at a dive is not having to wait in a line for a beer. The vibe of the place was generally great. It is a little dark, but that's usually fine with me, though the bartender was unable to read the specials when we were ordering food because it was so dark by our table. The music is also pretty loud. There are big speakers lining the exterior walls of the building, so I'm sure it's not too bad if you're sitting in the bar, but it's pretty intrusive if you're at a table - makes it hard to chat with the people you come in with. On Saturday night, a few people also came in with some little kids to play shuffleboard around 10:45. Once the kitchen closes, I don't see any reason there should be kids at a bar. I'd think the manager or the bartender would take some initiative here, but they were unable to pull themselves away from the bar. They were running around for almost an hour before they left. I definitely want to check this place out again but the really need to get someone else working in the place, especially around dinner time on the weekends.

Julie is such a lovely bartend and I’m always happy to see her. Donna is something special and so down to earth - always happy to talk with her. Phil making some of the greatest food I have ever tried. Kylie always smiling and all of them making the atmosphere such a positive and always welcoming experience. Really love that place. Peaceful, service best of the best, music what I like. Very very very recommending that place!!

The food. The menu is a dinky piece of laminated paper. It just says things like “Reuben”. What it doesn’t say: rumor has it the Tavern has acquired the services of a professional chef who formerly worked in the Signature Restaurant / 95th floor Hancock building, and he’s running things here like a five star Michelin. When I got the Reuben, it didn’t just look good. It looked “plated”. Every fry perfectly fried and placed. I don’t even like Reubens that much but this one was amazing. LOOK AT IT. ITS A MASTAPIECE. savory corned beef and left the memory of perfectly buttered rye on my palate. WHAT IS THIS PLACE !?!
